Default Diverse Subtitles

Hello everybody.

As i'm relatively new here i wanted to post a simple question.

Since i think theres many diferent nations represented here by the users of this forum, i wonder why almost all encodes only have english subtitles?

Wouldn't be more "friendly" to make available, if not all subtitles, at least those from the most common spoken languages in the world?

In random order: English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Hindi, Russian, Arab, and a few more.

I don't have any problem reading english subs but i have small children that just don't understand nothing at all from the animation movies that i've downloaded from here.

I hope that my questions are clear and i apologise for my english, it's not my native language.

Cheers

i will try to answer your question from my view

The sources i use usually have no subs or only english subs. So i generally have to sync subtitles myself or at least check if the subs are in sync or not. As you might guess i can't sync or check a subtitle in a language i don't know. So i only provide english subtitles and sometimes turkish subtitles.

i will include whatever subs the source have in my releases, but i won't use some downloaded, random, unchecked subs in my releases when i can't check if it is in sync or not.

so try to learn how to sync a subtitle with a release as this is a must for downloaded releases.

Google for a good subtitle workshop tutorial, that's the programme i use for syncing subtitles

Thanks for the info, ortamciahmet

I really thought that the bluray discs and dvd's had several subtitles languages, didn't knew that sometimes they only came with english subs or no subs at all.

Maybe it's because where i live those sources always have "lot's" of different subs.

Anyway, i apreciate your explanation.

Cheers

yeah, BDs and DVDs have lots of subs, but they are not in .srt or .sub format like the ones we use in .mkv files and it is very hard to get text file based subtitles from them. I download subtitles from subtitle sites instead of getting them from BD or DVD.

Well as you already noticed i'm an absolutely newbie about encoding technics.

But i will follow your advice and search for a good tutorial for adding "my own" subs to the kids movies.

Could you please tell me about some good sites for getting those external subtitles?

Thanks in advance

Honestly, if this is the case, all the more they should learn to read the English subs. This way, it shall improve the children's ability to read in English, same for my kids... I have 3 kids, they are 9 yrs old, 5 yrs old & my youngest coming to 2 yrs old. Ever since my kids were young, apart from nurturing their interests in reading, it is essential to let them watch movies with English subs, it trains their eyes, mind and reading skills subconsciously.

I'm proud to say that my 9 yrs old has extremely good English reading skills by now... By the way, I'm Chinese.
